Day 1: Lemosho Gate (2,385m) to Big Tree Camp (2,780m)

After breakfast, we will pick you up from your hotel at around 09:30 AM and transfer you to the Lemosho Gate on the western side of Kilimanjaro. Following the registration process, we will begin our steady climb through the lush forests of the Lemosho Glades, eventually reaching Big Tree Camp, where you will spend the night.

**Distance covered:** 7 km / 4.3 mi

**Approximate time taken:** 4 hours

Day 2: Big Tree Camp (2,780m) to Shira 1 Camp (3,500m)

Today’s trek takes you across a plateau of grassy moorland and heather, dotted with volcanic rock formations. Our destination is Shira 1 Camp, where you may catch glimpses of Kibo Peak appearing to float among the clouds. Expect a significant altitude gain with some steep sections along the route.

**Distance covered:** 8.5 km / 5.3 mi

**Approximate time taken:** 7 hours

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3,500m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,900m)

Today offers spectacular views of the Northern Ice Fields from the western side of the mountain, along with unique perspectives of Kibo Peak. We will steadily climb across the moorland of the Shira Plateau, which aids in acclimatization and provides stunning panoramic views. Our destination is Shira 2 Camp. In the afternoon, we’ll embark on an acclimatization walk before returning to camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

**Distance covered:** 8 km / 5 mi

**Approximate time taken:** 5 hours

**Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3,900m) to Barranco Camp (3,960m)**

Today’s trek begins with a climb offering expansive panoramic views as we enter the upland desert zone and traverse the lava ridges beneath the glaciers of the Western Breach. We will reach the prominent Lava Tower (4,640m), our highest point for the day, where you can enjoy a scenic lunch. In the afternoon, we will make a steep descent to our camp at the base of the Great Barranco Valley (3,960m). The camp is sheltered by towering cliffs and provides extensive views of the surrounding landscape.

**Distance covered:** 10 km / 6.2 mi

**Approximate time taken:** 7 hours

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,960m) to Karanga Camp (3,963m)

Our day begins with a descent into the Great Barranco, a vast ravine. We then tackle the steep ascent up the Great Barranco Wall, which separates us from the southeastern slopes of Kibo. This climb, while non-technical, is long and challenging. As we pass beneath the Heim and Kersten glaciers, we make our way towards the Karanga Valley. From there, we’ll climb steeply to our camp at Karanga Camp, situated at 3,963m. For those feeling strong, an optional mid-afternoon acclimatization trek to approximately 4,200m is available before we return to camp for the night.

**Distance covered:** 5.5 km / 3.4 mi

**Approximate time taken:** 5 hours

**Day 6: Karanga Camp (3,963m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m)**

After a good night’s rest and breakfast, we begin our trek to Barafu Camp at 4,640m. The route takes us across barren scree slopes with no vegetation, presenting a challenging and steep ascent exacerbated by the altitude. Upon reaching Barafu Camp, we will have a meal and spend the afternoon resting to prepare for the long night and day ahead. Staying hydrated and warm is crucial. We will have an early dinner and aim to rest before starting our summit ascent between 11 PM and midnight.

**Distance covered:** 3 km / 1.9 mi

**Approximate time taken:** 3 hours

**Day 7: Barafu Camp (4,640m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) & Descend to Millennium Camp (3,790m)**

We begin our ascent around midnight, climbing steeply towards the summit glaciers. The trek involves navigating scree for 4 to 5 hours, allowing us to gain significant altitude rapidly while enjoying spectacular views. We should reach Stella Point (5,739m) on the crater rim as the first rays of dawn light up the landscape. Surrounded by stunning ice cliffs and offering breathtaking views of the jagged Mawenzi Peak and beyond, the scenery is truly awe-inspiring. After another hour of walking, we will arrive at Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Following our time at the summit, we descend back to Stella Point and continue down the scree slopes to Barafu Camp for a well-deserved breakfast. From there, we will proceed to Millennium Camp (3,790m) for a long, restful night.

**Distance covered:** 13.4 km / 8.3 mi

**Approximate time taken:** 12 – 15 hours

**Day 8: Trek from Millennium Camp (3,790m) to Mweka Gate (1,630m)**

Today’s trek takes us gently down through the rainforest to Mweka Gate.
