9-Day Migration Footsteps Safari - River Crossing

Embark on the exhilarating 9-Day Migration Footsteps Safari - River Crossing, tracing the iconic journey of the Great Migration across the Serengeti. Witness the dramatic river crossings as millions of wildebeest and zebras brave crocodile-infested waters in search of greener pastures. Explore the Serengeti's vast plains and its diverse wildlife, from majestic lions to graceful giraffes, during daily game drives led by expert guides. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Tanzania's landscapes and stay in comfortable lodges and tented camps, ensuring a memorable and immersive safari experience that follows in the footsteps of Africa's most awe-inspiring wildlife spectacle.

Day 1

Arrival in Arusha

You will arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport. You will be met and greeted by our airport office staff who will assist you in case of any visa/luggage, then your guide will transfer you to Arusha for an overnight stay.

Arusha is a city in East Africa's Tanzania, located at the base of volcanic Mount Meru. It's a gateway to safari destinations and to Africa's highest peak, 5,895m Mount Kilimanjaro, which lies some 100 kilometers northeast.

Day 2

Tarangire National Park

You will depart Arusha after breakfast and drive to Tarangire National Park for a full-day game drive in the park. During lunchtime, your driver will set and prepare the table for a full hot meal lunch with cold drinks. You will continue with an evening game drive to the camp for sunset dinner and an overnight stay.

Located slightly off the main safari route, Tarangire National Park is a lovely quiet park in Northern Tanzania that is most famous for its elephant migration, birding, and quiet authentic safari atmosphere. The majority of travelers to the region either miss out on Tarangire altogether or venture into the park for only a matter of hours, leaving parts of Tarangire virtually untouched.

Day 3

Tarangire National Park

After breakfast today, you will have a great opportunity for a morning walking safari into the park. Later, you will go on a game drive with a hot meal lunch. In the evening, you will head back to the camp for dinner and an overnight stay. Once you've eaten a leisurely breakfast, you will depart to Tarangire National Park for game viewing. In the park, you can find herds of up to 300 elephants scratching the dry river bed for underground streams. It's the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem—a smorgasbord for predators. This is the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared oryx and peculiar long-necked gerenuk are regularly observed.

Day 4

Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, you will depart and drive to Lake Manyara for a game drive and canopy walks with a hot meal lunch. In the evening, you will drive to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. Manyara provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. More than 400 species have been recorded, and even a first-time visitor to Africa might reasonably expect to observe 100 of these in one day. Inland of the floodplain, a narrow belt of acacia woodland is the favored haunt of Manyara’s legendary tree-climbing lions and impressively tusked elephants.

Day 5

Ngorongoro Crater

You will depart after breakfast, and drive to Ngorongoro for a full-day game drive in the crater. In the afternoon, your driver will set a table for lunch in a great shade point for a hot meal and cold drinks. You will continue with a game drive in the evening and drive to the lodge allocated at the crater rim for dinner and an overnight stay.

The jewel in Ngorongoro's crown is a deep, volcanic crater, the largest unflooded and unbroken caldera in the world. The crater is about 20 km across, 600 meters deep, and 300 sq km in area. Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtaking natural wonder. You will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos, and other water birds can usually be seen here.

Day 6

Central Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will depart and drive to Central Serengeti National Park. You will partake in a game drive and en route, a hot meal lunch will be served at the Nabi gate. You will continue to central Seronera for an afternoon game drive, and check in to the beautiful camp for dinner and overnight stay.

The only living things that look like they really belong, are the wild animals. Between the animals and Africa, there is an understanding that human beings have not yet earned. Today, Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and the Masai Mara National Reserve across the border in Kenya protect the greatest and most varied collection of terrestrial wildlife on earth and one of the last great migratory systems still intact.

The Serengeti is the jewel in the crown of Tanzania's protected areas, which altogether make up some 14% of the country's land area, a conservation record that few other countries can match.

Day 7

Northern Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will depart and drive to Serengeti North Kogatende, where you will view the great migration crossing the Mara River. A hot meal will be served by your guide for lunch. In the evening, you will check in to the camp for a hot shower, dinner, and overnight stay.

River crossings at Kogatende start to occur every day in August as the mega herd settles into the area. For August, September, and October, game viewing up here is superb with river crossings pretty much guaranteed every day. There is no distinct movement as the herds tend to cross back and forth over the river, following the rains and subsequent fresh grasses. It is not uncommon to see different herds crossing in different directions on the same day.

Day 8

Northern Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will go on a full-day game drive in North Serengeti National Park, Kogatende Area, where you will view the spectacle of thousands of wildebeests and zebras crossing the Mara River. You will have a hot meal lunch. In the evening, get back to the camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

You will witness a million wildebeest each one driven by the same ancient rhythm, fulfilling its instinctive role in the inescapable cycle of life. A frenzied three-week bout of territorial conquests and mating; survival of the fittest as 40km (25 miles) long columns plunge through crocodile-infested waters on the annual exodus north. During this period, the species are replenished in a brief population explosion that produces more than 8,000 calves daily before the 1,000 km (600 miles) pilgrimage begins again.

Day 9

Serengeti - Arusha

You will have an early breakfast at the camp, followed by a morning game drive in the park. You will see the great migration before transferring to the Kogatende Airstrip for your flight to Arusha. On arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel for lunch before dropping off at your hotel or the airport where our tour will end.
